Membership Update 11 Association of the United States Navy many spouses who served tirelessly behind the scenes, and oen out in front, to build the organization we enjoy today. We've altered course with the launch of our Anchor Society so we won't bombard our members with solicitations for support. You have taught us that the old-school friendly phone call is by far a better way to share the latest news about our organization and to discuss how we can work together to leave a legacy benefiting all of America's Sailors. Revitalizing our Chapters e good news about AUSN's modernization plan is surely getting out, as we've been experiencing a sustained uptick in new-member applications, member inquiries and chapter activities. Chapter involvement has always been essential to AUSN's "boots-on-the-ground" action and we're in full swing revitalizing our chapters in Pearl Harbor, San Antonio, San Francisco, Columbus, Ohio, and Gainesville, Fla. As we adjust our sails to meet the future needs of our Sailors, our members' involvement also will transform. AUSN is joining forces with the Navy Safe Harbor Foundation, and much of that alignment will depend on AUSN's members contributing to a new and exciting mission in support of America's wounded, ill and injured Sailors and Coast Guard members and their families. Areas where the Navy serves a large number of our wounded shipmates are logical choices for where AUSN plans to establish or revitalize local chapters. If you are interested in getting involved with your local chapter, establishing a new chapter, or even providing some truly appreciated intel on how AUSN can be involved in your community, please reach out to the Membership Department at (703) 548-5800 or via email at AUSN's Facebook Virtual Chapter We've recently created AUSN's "Virtual Chapter," to provide a worldwide home where our members can come together to discuss the most pressing issues of the day. Plans are under way to aptly name the Virtual Chapter via AUSN's Facebook account in honor of RADM Grace Hopper, the Navy's pioneer in computer technology. Please visit AUSN's Facebook page and request access to the Virtual Chapter. It's free for current members and a great reason to join AUSN for all non-members. Legislative Updates Have you been receiving AUSN's weekly Legislative Update via email? If not, give us a heads up so we can put you on our email list. For those who are receiving it, we hope you're enjoying the information AUSN's Legislative Team has been providing. e goal of our Legislative Updates is to provide a snapshot of the most pressing issues on Capitol Hill that impact our Navy, Sailors, veterans and our national security. When you read the updates, you'll see that we're not afraid to provide a frank and honest assessment of key issues, nor do we hesitate to provide any "hall-talk" when it appears both relevant and legitimate. To ensure you are receiving the Legislative Updates by email, reach out to us at and we'll adjust our records as needed. New Website and Action Center Have you experienced AUSN's newest home on the Internet, located at You'll enjoy a whole new way of learning more about AUSN's mission in an easy-to-read, attractive and useful online environ- ment. When we set out to reimagine our website, we were determined to make it more than a destination. Our goal is to bring added value to AUSN's members with easy avenues to make connections, conduct research, receive guidance and find ways to volun- teer. Soon, we'll be adding AUSN's Legislative Action Center, harnessing the power of advocacy so our members can communicate directly with the deci- sion makers on Capitol Hill. Our goal is to reaffirm that AUSN's members are its "legislative front-line" influencers. When change is needed, it will come from our members first. Please visit the site oen, as we're adding information and new features all the time. You'll be glad you did. Brian B. Bauman is the Director of Membership and Marketing at AUSN.
