EVENTS AND ANNOUNCEMENTS 11 Association of the United States Navy A USN is proud to honor Phoenix, Arizona's Saguaro chapter for their many accomplishments, including their service to the community. In 2015, Saguaro Chapter members formed the USS Phoenix (SSN-702) Cold War Monument Foundation to raise money to bring the sail & rudder of the submarine to the City of Phoenix… and accomplished it in 2016! e "Save our Sail Project" took 17 years with the help of various veterans groups and this chapter took the lead. e ribbon cutting for the USS Phoenix Cold War Monument site dedication was held March 22, 2016, during Phoenix Navy Week, and the Sail Welcome Home and Re-Christening Ceremony was Sept. 20. AUSN National Vice President ISCS(Ret.) Jon Altmann is the Co-Chairman of the City of Phoenix Military Veterans Commission and has served in that capacity for seven years. He was just in DC for his 3rd year on the Secretary of the Navy's Retiree Council, and was previously AUSN's National Vice President for Budget & Finance, and Membership. Saguaro Chapter President CAPT(Ret.) Carol Culbertson is a member of the Arizona Veterans Hall of Fame Society and is supporting 11 N/MJROTC schools. Saguaro Chapter Vice President LCDR(Ret.) Lynn Bennett has been VP for 13 years and retired from the U.S. Navy last year. e AUSN Saguaro Chapter is also the sponsor for Phoenix's Navy Birthday Ball. Bravo Zulu, shipmates!
