EVENTS AND ANNOUNCEMENTS 16 Navy | Fall/Winter 2017 JAIME CHIRINOS; HEIDI LENZINI I n AUSN's Summer issue, we had a chance to share our interview with Defense Health Agency (DHA) Director, VADM Raquel Bono. AUSN hosted her deputy Mr. Guy Kiyokawa at Microso's Technology and Innovation Center for the quarterly Navy Now Forum Oct. 5. AUSN is grateful to headline sponsor Microso and annual corporate partners Capital Bank and USAA for sponsoring this event. e audience learned that DHA is bending the health care cost curve by encouraging all beneficiaries to lead healthier life- styles, giving them tools to monitor their own health; keeping patients out of the hospital by treating their ailments at home, in an outpatient setting or over the phone; and reducing waste and unnecessary tests . Electronic Health Records (EHR) are also central to the idea about how DHA "bends the cost curve" by being smarter in sustaining health and delivering care, as well as improve access, quality and outcomes. To make it easier for people to connect with their providers, DHA is supporting more telemed- icine, including 24/7 telephone access to a nurse line, secure messaging on the Internet, and more telemedicine video pres- ence...powerful tools for fully involving patients in their health care.
